On Palm Sunday, athletes from our club took part in the biggest trail race in Bulgaria – Tarnovo Ultra. A whopping 743 runners lined up for the most popular race, the 14 km, among them 10 members of SKO Trapezitsa-1954.
Rosen Hristov was the fastest runner under 18 and finished 11th overall, battling right to the end for a place in the top 10. Kristiyan Marinov and Georgi Mitsov also did well, finishing sixth and seventh among the boys. In the under-18 girls, Mariya Dikova, Sofiya Petrova and Yoana Atanasova took second, third and fourth place respectively. Yana Petrova and Elitsa Atanasova ran the longer 25 km distance. Danaila Mitsova took part in the 2 km children's race, and Daniel Benet was our only representative in the MTBO races, riding the 35 km course the day before.
Spring Cup
While part of the team raced on the familiar trails around Tarnovo, another part chose to take on the challenge of the middle distance at the Spring Cup. The Shumen Plateau offered technical and completely different terrain, which set the athletes a whole new set of challenges. The courses tested precise orienteering skills in flat terrain with runnable forest – something very different from the usual areas around Tarnovo.
Kristiyan Petkov and Martin Yordanov performed brilliantly, finishing first and third in one of the traditionally most competitive and biggest classes – M12. Aleksandar Atanasov took first place in M45, and Radoslav Petkov came second in the Open category.
