From 28 June to 3 July, the Junior World Orienteering Championships will take place around Trento and on the slopes of South Tyrol. Once again, SKO Trapezitsa-1954 has a representative at the most prestigious and hard-fought competition for the under-20 classes.

Marta Ruseva secured her place at the championships after strong runs in the sprint distances at this year's national championships, finishing 2nd in both W18 and W20. Our athlete will test her skills against 164 athletes from 41 countries.

Early this week, Marta travelled with the national team to Italy, and in the days before the championships she has model events and acclimatisation ahead of her. This year's Junior World Championships open with a sprint relay and a sprint on Saturday and Sunday (28 and 29 June) in small towns with narrow, winding streets typical of this part of Italy. The forest distances will be held on the steep slopes near Trento and, as well as testing physical fitness, the areas will challenge the athletes' ability to navigate among countless micro-features, marshes and rocks. The long distance takes place on Monday (30 June), and after a rest day the programme continues with the middle distance on Wednesday (2 July) and ends on Thursday (3 July) with the relay.

SKO Trapezitsa-1954 wishes the best of luck to Marta and to the other 10 athletes who will represent our country.

You can find out more about the championships on the official championship website, as well as on the International Orienteering Federation website.
